Is a Poodle the right dog for you?

We started Poodles of Willow Glade in Oklahoma because we love Standard Poodles ourselves. Not only do we want everyone to know why we love them, but we also want you to be able to experience it for yourself. A Poodle is an excellent breed because of their temperament. They are often described as alert, easy to train, intelligent, loyal, and active.

Due to their loyalty, they bond quickly with their owners and thrive in both a family environment or with just one owner. Their gentle-temperament similarly makes them a great family pet for families with children. They are such a friendly breed that they really can be your best friend.

Since Poodles are intelligent, it makes them easy to train. So, getting them as a puppy means that they can learn and adapt quickly to their new homes. It is possible to house-train and socialize your puppies at home, even without experience with dogs. But, If you are not comfortable with training your puppy, we can suggest an excellent training service for pets in your Oklahoma neighborhood. This will allow a trustworthy person with experience in training Poodles and puppies to help you, help your new puppy adjust.

Another great thing about Poodles is that they have hair and not fur. Many people have fur allergies but don’t realize it until they get a new pet and start continually sneezing. Since they have hair rather than fur, they are hypo-allergenic. This means that it is less likely that your Poodle will cause an allergic reaction.

Similarly, another issue people tend to have with their new pet is how much dogs usually shed. This will not happen with your Poodle as having hair instead of fur means they do not shed. Like our hair, however, Poodle’s hair needs to be brushed to take care of their coat correctly and keep it from matting. You can easily do this at home but should also get your Poodle’s hair groomed and trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks professionally.

As great as Poodles are, we further understand that the breed isn’t for everyone. Though we sell small puppies, they will grow into full-sized dogs. A Standard male Poodle can grow up to 40 to 70 pounds, with females being slightly smaller. Since they are so friendly, social, and loving, they tend to jump on people or try to sit in people’s laps even as adults, as they think that they are still “lap sized” dogs.

Though this sounds like a dream for some pet owners, if you have very small children and want a small dog, a Standard Poodle may not be ideal. We aim to find the perfect puppy for you and your family but want the puppies to have a forever home as they grow bigger.
